In Namibia, there are currently three SOS Nurseries and one SOS Primary School. These facilities provide education to children from SOS Villages and from the wider community. Staff members are well trained and the resources available to students are of a high standard.  Below you can find an overview on the SOS Children education projects.

Schools in Namibia

In March 2007, SOS officially handed over the running of the Technical High School in Swakopmund to Namibia’s Ministry of Education. Considered the “jewel in the Namib”, the school’s mission continues to be the provision of excellent vocational education which trains up technically-qualified youngsters to take their place in fields as diverse as motor mechanics, computing, bricklaying and pottery. The handing-over ceremony was celebrated with singing and dancing.

Ondangwa : SOS Schools

The SOS nursery at Ondangwa provides places for up to 75 children from the local community.

  • The school has three teachers who provide all the young children with an uplifting and caring environment as they learn and play.
  • As well as the annual graduation day, the nursery celebrates Christmas by holding a party for the children.

Tsumeb : SOS Schools

The SOS nursery at Tsumeb caters for 100 children from the community and SOS village.

  • The nursery has 4 group rooms, a kitchen and play area. The school offers a wide range of activities to develop our children.
  • Each year the nursery school holds an annual ceremony for all children graduating from the school.

Windhoek : SOS Schools

The SOS nursery at Windhoek caters for 100 children from the SOS village and the local community.

  • The nursery has 4 group rooms, a kitchen and play area. As well as the activities which take part inside the school, pupils are also encouraged to learn about their wider environment. Recently our children bought apples to assist the Cancer Association of Namibia at ‘Apple Day’ and received a talk from a traffic department official from the city of Windhoek about traffic signs and rules of the road.
  • At the end of each school year the nursery holds a graduation day. Children also take part in a Christmas play and a ‘Mini Sports’ day.

The SOS Primary at Windhoek has capacity for 500 students.

  • The school’s facilities consist of 21 classrooms, a library, sports ground and administrative areas.
