For section numbers to appear in devnagari, the numbering system has to be switched at a global level. Only wikimedia sysops can do that.

Harshal had put in a request some time ago for this. Apparently, wikimedia sysops are way behind on their tasks.

I guess we have to wait.

Avoiding uncomfortable level of policy policing about links deletion,Call for flexibility

This I posted on English Wiki Policy discussion page.

Some editors including me are well aware of policy that says wikipedia is not mere repository of external links. 1)But most of times these links are given in an incomplete article to build it further and expand over a period of time.

2)Many times from where various editors come(Social or country background) may have cultuaral and legal limitations on freedom of expression and speech.And such editors may leave certain links in the background which express a different POV. In the print media when the pressures come normally unspoken tradition is to silently spread counter POV in areas where people reffer less.

• My openion is Wikipedia makes relevant change in given policy that before deleting links in any page ,article that
  • links should not be deleted blindly .
  • Linked article should be read one by one
  • Preferably try to post it as inline refference if that portion is already developed in the article.
  • If it is not already developed put a tag and leave the link there itself for refference of future edits and editors.

Please avoid over policing on this count because even while searching and collecting links is sizable investment of time and study dont whiten them without knowledge. Mahitgar 06:53, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Here on Marathi Wikipedia, I do not recall an incident when we removed links just because. We trust our editors and believe that they will only put relevant links in an article.

On the flip side, there have been many incidents where malicious editors have put spam links, links to websites selling drugs, books, or other idiotic stuff, sometimes in the middle of an article. It is difficult for another editor/admin to go through all the links if there are tons of them without reference. Especially if they've been lying around for a long time.

I propose that the editors/admins leave the links alone for a reasonable period of time before deleting them.

• • Dear Abhay , It is actually a english wikipedia issue only.But over all policies affect other wikies also, so I copy paste my post again on Marathi Wikipedia to have general level of awareness,sorry if you have miss understood, personally I dont have any issues about our Marathi Wiki.Just I want to keep informed our Marathi Wiki.

Also you might have noticed I have tried to make certain changes in our community page where we can inform what is happening about India related articles on English wikipedia.

About the mischiefs you reffered about unrelrelated links specialy if those are inline only with number would be difficult to identify. May be we insist same numbering be repeated in reffernce para with proper name.But practically those need manual link by link check only hardly enough -a short cut.

spell checker bot

On english wiki I found that at following link we can put up a request to prgrammers to write a bot programme for us.Wikipedia:Bot requests Before putting up such a request I would like to invite suggestions from all Marathi/Devanagari Wikipedians.

A spell checking bot would be great. en:Aspell has a Hindi wordlist along with many other indic language wordlists. I would imagine that would be quite helpful in building the bot. You could either just use the list or use aspell itself. There is also a dict for for Hindi, Marathi and a few others through the dictd. Hi Mahitgar, I responded to your query on the about a spell check bot, but I didn't see your userpage here until now. You should provide links from each to your userpage on your most active project. I don't have the skills to write a spell check bot but it would be great to have. en:Aspell and en:Freedict would be a good start, as the first has a Hindi, Marathi, etc wordlist and the second has a Hindi-English and eng-hin dictionary, and presumably other languages. Aspell could probably form the basis of a spell checking bot. You could also try posting on Wikipedia:Bot requests to see if someone there is willing to put the bot together. मराठीत आपण टिचकी द्या असं म्हणतो तिथे टिकटिकवा असं म्हणता येईल का? ह्या व्यवस्थेनुसार टिकटिक हा धातू (क्रियापदाचं मूळ रूप), टिकटिकव हे त्यापासून साधलेलं प्रयोजक रूप, टिकटिक (स्त्री.), टिकटिकवणं (न. पुं.) ही साधित नामं, इ. सारा संभार वापरता येईल.

उदा.

हा उंदीर चांगला टिकटिकतो.

The word insinuates a repeatitive action, perhaps it is a good translation of 'double-click'. I do not think it represents a click or key-press.

टिकटिकवणे हे कोणत्याही इंग्रजी शब्दाचं भाषांतर नाही. तो स्वतंत्र शब्द आहे. उंदीर वापरताना येणारा अनुभव त्यातून व्यक्त होतो. (सध्याचे) उंदीर उजवीकडे वा डावीकडे टिकटिकवताना दुवारच ध्वनी होत असतो. पहिला टिक हा ध्वनी बोटाने दाब देताना होतो. दुसरा बोट काढताना होतो. (जिज्ञासूंनी प्रयोग करून पाहावा.) एखाद्या दुव्यावर टिकटिकवताना (सध्याचा शब्द : टिचकी देताना) टिकटिक असा जुळा ध्वनीच होत असतो. जेव्हा आपण दोनदा टिकटिकवतो तेव्हा टिक हा ध्वनी चारदा ऐकू येत असतो. (टिचकीचा ध्वनी टिकटिकीहून मोठा असतो. तसंच टिचकी ही बोटांनीच वाजते. तिला साधनाची मध्यस्थी लागत नाही.) असो. तसंच आपण इथे हे शब्द पारिभाषिक संज्ञा म्हणून वापरतो (टिचकी देणंसुद्धा!). उद्या मुळीच आवाज न करणारेही उंदीर निघू शकतील. टिकटिकवणे ही संज्ञा सुचवली आहे ते ती लहान, सुटसुटीत वाटली म्हणून.

सुशांत म्हणतो तसे 'टिकटिकवणे' हा शब्द ध्वनिसूचक आहे खरा. पण त्यापेक्षा 'टिचकी देणे' हा रुळू लागलेला शब्द आहे. शब्द अजून सुटसुटीत हवा असल्यास 'टिचकवणे' असे क्रियापदही पर्याय ठरू शकेल.

व्यक्तींच्या नावाचे लेख...

व्यक्तींच्या नावाचे लेख लिहिताना मराठी विकीपीडियावर काही लेख त्या-त्या व्यक्तीच्या संपूर्ण नावाने तयार केले आहेत. उदा.: जयंत विष्णू नारळीकर. असे लेख त्या-त्या व्यक्तीच्या व्यवहारात प्रचलित असलेल्या नावांवर स्थानांतरित करावेत असे वाटते. बहुतांश वेळा एखाद्या व्यक्तीवरील लेख शोधताना आपल्याला व्यक्तीचे प्रथमनाम आणि आडनाव माहीत असते; आणि त्यावरूनच गूगल/विकिपीडिया शोध घेतला जातो. त्या दृष्टीने ही पद्धत उपयोगी पडेल.

अर्थात नवीन लेख बनवताना तो व्यक्तीच्या संपूर्ण नावाने बनवला तरी हरकत नाही. फक्त नंतर तो व्यवहारात प्रचलित नावाने स्थानांतरित करावा.

मराठी विकिपीडियाच्या आतच 'गमभन'जोडणे तांत्रिक दृष्ट्या शक्य आहे किंवा कसे? शक्य आहे. सद्ध्याच्या सुविधेत क्लायंटसाईड जावा स्क्रिप्टींग वापरले आहे त्यामुळे फारसे अडथळे येऊ नयेत. एचटीएमेलची सद्ध्या फायरफॉक्स/मोझिला वर काहीतरी तांत्रिक अडचण येत आहे, ती मी सोडवण्याचा प्रयत्न करत आहे, पण एकूण विकीपीडियात गमभन जोडायला आणि वापरायला फारसा त्रास होणाअर नाही.

सोबतच ऑफलाईन शुद्धिचिकित्सेची सुद्धा सोय व्हावी. मनोगतवरची सुविधा ही ड्रुपलबरोबरच आलेली आहे, प्रशासकांनी तिचे मराठीकरण केले आहे जे काम खरेच कौतुकास्पद आहे. ड्रुपल शिवाय स्वतंत्र शुद्धिचिकित्सक बनवणे कठीण नसले तरी वेळखाऊ काम आहे. त्याऐवजी सद्ध्या उपलब्ध असणाऱ्या काही सोयी पडताळून पाहणे आधी योग्य ठरावे.

विकिपीडियात बॉट नावाची काही सुविधा आहे त्याकरिता आपल्या सारख्या तज्ञ व्यक्तीचे मार्गदर्शन होउ शकलेतर खूप छान होईल. मला याबद्दल फारशी माहिती नाही. आपण तांत्रिक बाबींकरता यावर कोठे माहिती असल्यास त्याच दुवा दिलात तर मला बॉट्स अभ्यासणे सोपे जाईलसे वाटते.

बऱ्याच काळापासून गोदावरी नदी हा लेख मुखपृष्ठ सदरासाठी तयार आहे. सदर म्हणून प्रस्तुत करण्याआधी कोणीतरी (ज्याने त्यात योगदान केलेले नाही) तो नजरेखालून घालायला हवा (शुद्धलेखन, व्याकरण, सत्यता, इ. साठी.) अजून तरी कोणीही ते करण्याचे आवाहन आव्हान उचललेले नाही.

तसे होताच सदर बदलण्यात येईल.

लेख वाचला

अभय,

गोदावरी ह्या लेखावरील सगळीच माहिती पडताळून पाहणे हे किचकट काम आहे. महत्वाच्या माहितीजवळ लहान अक्षरांमध्ये (superscript) टीपणे (references) दिल्यास माहिती सहजपणे पडताळुन पाहण्यास मदत होईल असे वाटते.

माहिती

सगळी माहिती पडताळून पाहण्यापेक्षा जर शुद्धलेखन व व्याकरण बरोबर असल्याची खात्री असणे जास्त महत्त्वाचे आहे. लेख लिहीणाऱ्या सदस्यांनी माहिती पडताळली असेलच असे गृहित धरू व जमेल तितके spot-check केल्यासही काम भागेल असे मला वाटते. मुख्य मुद्दा म्हणजे एकापेक्षा जास्त सदस्यांनी जर लेख नजरेखालून घातला तर चुकांचे प्रमाण दशमानाने कमी होते असा माझा अनुभव आहे.
