Remember someone like Omar — SOS Children

Remember someone like Omar

You could help someone like Omar, a young child from SOS Children's Village Bakoteh, who faced severe difficulties in his first few weeks. Here is his story:

Baby Omar held by mother, Bakoteh, GambiaOmar's Success Story

You wouldn’t wish Omar’s first two weeks on anyone. The youngest of eight children, he was weak from neglect and severely underweight. He faced harsh deprivation and an uncertain future. By the time he came to SOS Children Bakoteh, The Gambia, with his two brothers and five sisters, he was traumatised.

Now, Omar has been transformed into a happy, healthy and loving little boy. Cared for by his SOS mother, with a family and a friendly place to call home, Omar is thriving. As he grows up he’ll have a good education, healthcare, and the nurturing he needs until he’s ready to live an independent life.

Omar was one of the lucky ones. Many are not as fortunate.

The children we care for are the innocent victims of conflict, famine, poverty, illness or natural disasters. For the last 60 years SOS Children has provided a lifeline for boys and girls who have no-one else to turn to. We care for them in our purpose-built Villages or support them in their own homes via an extensive outreach programme for disadvantaged families at risk of abandoning the children they care for.
