Remember someone like Tamana — SOS Children

Remember someone like Tamana

You could help someone like Tamana, a bubbling young girl from SOS Children's Village Rajpura who has secured admission on a Masters course in Physical Education at a prestigious college. She shares with us her success story.

My Success Story

Remember our Charity and help someone like Tamana

I came to SOS Children's Village Rajpura in 1996. At that point I could have never thought that I would reach the position where I am today.

My SOS mother was very supportive and always encouraged me to perform well in my academic subjects and sports. After getting grade 'A' in class eight, my confidence increased and I started working hard.

At school I played badminton and also participated in the district level badminton competition. Looking at my performance in badminton, my sports teacher advised me to sign up for a Bachelor of Science in sports. After class twelve, I joined Guru Nanak Khalsa College in the neighbouring state of Haryana.

Hostel life was a different experience all together. In the beginning I felt lonely but quickly adjusted myself in the new environment. Along with my academic studies, I also actively participated in sports. I graduated in first division and also participated in the All India University Badminton Championship, where I won first prize.

After graduation, I was getting job offers but my SOS mother and 'director Uncle' (the village director) encouraged me to study further. I also felt that I had the capacity to go on to higher studies. I applied to the College of Physical Education in Patiala and Kurukshetra for the Masters programme.

I sat the entrance exam at Patiala but unfortunately did not pass. I was sad and depressed about this, but my SOS mother supported me a lot. She told me not to worry and be optimistic. I gathered together all my inner strength and started preparing for the entrance exam for Kurukshetra. Luck favoured me and I passed the exam. My classes will begin in the first week of September.

I am extremely happy to have achieved my goal. For me it is like a dream come true. I attribute my success to my big SOS family and especially to my SOS mother who has always been there for me and supported me no matter what.

I want to work hard and reach the top position. In addition to this I want to help the poor and needy children. And maybe some day one of them will write their success story like me.
