Our Ambassadors

SOS Children’s Ambassadors are a vital part of our work internationally. Around the world, significant figures in a number of walks of life, including the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela, have shown their commitment to the children in our care by lending their name to our charity and helping to promote our work.

SOS Children Ambassadors in the UK are:

Vincent Kompany

Vincent Kompany small image

Vincent Kompany is a talented footballer who captains Manchester City and Belgium.

Vincent has family ties to the Democratic Republic of Congo and has visited SOS Children's Villages Kinshasa. He has also visited SOS Children’s Village Go Vap in Vietnam.

Vincent says: "I am very proud to be part of the SOS family - I can't support them enough!"

Anyika Onuora

Anyika Onuora ambassador

Anyika Onuora is a successful athlete who has won silver medals in the Commonwealth Games and European Championships. She will be competing at the Olympics in London in the 100m and 200m.

Anyika says about SOS Children: "I'm very happy to support SOS Children. They make a real difference by giving a family and a home to vulnerable children."

Emma Crosby

Emma CrosbyEmma Crosby is a main presenter of Channel Five News and fronts the channel's news and current affairs programmes. Previously Emma co-anchored the popular breakfast news show GMTV.

Emma is an Ambassador for SOS Children's Villages and is involved in fundraising for orphans and disadvantaged children in South Africa.

Stella Duffy

Stella DuffyStella Duffy is an award-winning writer of novels, short stories and plays. She is also an actor and theatre director.  She was born in the UK, grew up in New Zealand, and now lives in London.

Of SOS : “I’m delighted to support SOS and am particularly impressed with the family-centred ethos, the desire to help families and siblings stay together and, when that is not possible, to provide children with as close to a family life as can be achieved, within their own communities.

Jackie Long

Jackie LongJackie Long is Channel 4 News’ Social Affairs Editor. She joined the programme in 2011, following more than two decades at the BBC. Most recently she was Correspondent at Newsnight, and she previously worked on The World at One, PM and Five Live.

Jackie says: "I support SOS Children because they have such a simple aim - a loving home for every child - but it's so utterly fundamental. SOS Children step in to make sure every child - whatever their circumstances - can know what it feels like to be part of a family, to have a mum who will support them whatever happens. Simple, but absolutely life-saving."

Phil Spencer

Phil SpencerProperty expert and TV presenter of Channel 4’s ‘Location, Location, Location’, Phil Spencer became an SOS Children Ambassador in 2007 following a trip to SOS projects in Ghana in 2006.

Since then, Phil has been involved in SOS Children’s World Orphan Week campaign to raise vital awareness of our work worldwide. Phil has shown tremendous energy and commitment in supporting SOS Children and is passionate about improving the lives of vulnerable children. In 2009 Phil visited SOS Children's Village Port Elizabeth in South Africa.

Phil says: “I experienced SOS Children’s work in Ghana and South Africa first hand and have been truly inspired by what I have seen. I am incredibly proud to be supporting SOS Children”.
