Haiti: Sponsor a child in Haiti

Before the earthquake in Haiti, the SOS Children’s Village in Santo was the home to 124 orphaned and abandoned children. After the earthquake the Children’s Village opened its gates to other children in need. Today, 408 children live in the Children’s Village. Each house in the Children’s Village is now home to an SOS Mother and two ‘helpers’ who look after between 15 and 20 children. We have already helped 165 other children who were separated from their parents in the chaos after the earthquake to find their families again.

Since the earthquake, more than 250 of our supporters have been contributing to our emergency relief and rebuilding work in Haiti. They intend to become longer-term child sponsors once the authorities there have placed lost and abandoned children permanently in our care. In the meantime, these supporters have helped us provide safety, food and shelter for these children. Some of these children will undoubtedly come into our Villages in Haiti. Others, we hope, may yet find their own families, or may be cared for by other families in the community after formal processes have been completed.

But to keep our initial relief work going we need more, many more, sponsors. Please help if you can.

Meanwhile, Haiti rebuilding programme sponsorship works like this:

• Sponsors fill in the online sponsorship form and set up a direct debit or credit card payment
  
• The first 12 months of payments are used for our Haiti rebuilding programme
  
• Sponsors receive updates on progress with rebuilding lives in Haiti
• After the initial 12 months of payments the sponsorship changes into a sponsorship for a child or Village in Haiti, at which point the sponsor receives a welcome pack with details of their sponsorship/sponsored child
• We guarantee that 100% of all sponsorship money is sent from the UK without deduction and either used in Haiti.
• Sponsors are free to cancel at any time
