Child Sponsorship Background from Sialkot, Pakistan
SOS Children's Village Sialkot
SOS Children's Villages Sialkot is located 20 km from the centre of the city of the same name. Sialkot is a large industrial city in the densely populated Punjabi province of north-east Pakistan.
The Pakistani government gave SOS Children's Villages a 4-hectare parcel of land next to an irrigation canal in 2001. The remains of a building over a century old belonging to the irrigation office can be found near a beautiful cluster of trees.
The construction of the SOS Children's Village could only be started in 2002 after the demolition had been completed. The preservation of the breathtaking vegetation, consisting mainly of mango trees, was seriously considered during the planning stage. The construction was completed in July and SOS Children's Village Sialkot then opened its doors to the orphaned and needy children of the region.
