A kitchen and playground also belong to the SOS Nursery. It is open to children both from the SOS Children's Village and from the surrounding community, which greatly assists with the integration of the SOS Children's Village.

Background to Serowe

Serowe has a population of approximately 90,000.  It is famed as the birthplace of Botswana's first President.  Since the turn of 2000, Serowe has undergone numerous developments and continues to expand at a steady rate.  Amongst these developments was a state-of-the-art hospital, opened in 2007.  However, despite these developments, today, approximately 30,000 orphans live in and around the Serowe area and the number of child or granny headed families is steadily increasing.  The SOS Children's Village is located on the outskirts of Serowe, in a middle class residential area. The plot of land was donated by the government of Botswana.
