SOS Children's Village Quilpué

SOS Children' s Village Quilpué was officially opened on 11 December 1983. It is located in the small town of Retiro in central Chile. Valparaíso and Viña del Mar are nearby and the capital Santiago de Chile is about 120 km away. The property spans over many hectares and has some hills which are mostly covered by eucalyptus trees that are typical to the region.

Up to 130 children can find a new, loving home in the 16 family houses of SOS Children's Village Quilpué. The village also has a village director' s house, a community centre with an administrative unit and function rooms for special events and celebrations, a swimming pool, a holiday house on the pacific coast, and a house for the SOS aunts (SOS Children' s Village mothers in training, who assist current SOS mothers in their everyday work and stand in for them if they are ill or on holiday). Children from the SOS Children' s Village attend local state schools and nurseries.

Other SOS Projects in Quilpué

Five SOS Youth Homes were set up in an urban area about 30 km from Valparaíso, Viña del Mar and Quilpué. Older children from SOS Children' s Village Quilpué can be housed in the SOS Youth Homes for the period of their secondary or vocational education. In the facilities, a youth educator supervises them as they gradually get used to leading an independent life.
