SOS Children’s Village Ouagadougou is located 10 km north of the town centre in the community of Polosgo. In 1995, the property was transferred to SOS Children, and in the very same year construction works started. Due to various problems they were not finished until 1997.

At the end of 1997, the SOS Children's Village Ouagadougou accommodated 100 children and was nearly fully occupied.

The SOS Children's Village Ougadougou comprises 12 family houses, a house for the Village Director, a house for the aunts (aunts take care of the children when the SOS mother is on leave), an administrative and service building, a sick ward, a playground, round huts, a workshop and an assembly hall.

Other SOS Projects in Ouagadougou

In 1997, the SOS Nursery also started operating with 6 classrooms. At the same time, the very first lessons were given at the SOS Primary School (capacity 150 pupils) which was accommodated in the buildings of the large-scaled SOS Nursery.

In 1998, however, the SOS Nursery and the SOS School were separated and the nursery was moved to a smaller building which was built next to the school. A total of 75 children from the SOS Children’s Village and its neighbourhood are taken care of in the SOS Nursery at the moment. In 2003, the SOS Children’s Village was provided with a Youth Home where elder SOS youths are accommodated and where they can prepare themselves for their independence. Since getting ready for independence is particularly difficult for many youths a special programme for youth counselling was started by the SOS Children’s Village.
