Children from Manila, PhilippinesSOS Children's Village Manila

In 1989, the sixth SOS Children's Village was opened at Ayala Alabang, which is a part of the capital Manila. The SOS Children's Village is situated only 10 minutes from a shopping area.

A number of family houses and the necessary administrative buildings were constructed on a site of approximately 1.2 hectares. A small vegetable patch was laid out in the backyard of each family house.

Next to the SOS Children's Village, there is a convent which operates a pre-school. This school is also attended by children from the SOS Children's Village.

Other SOS Projects in Manila

An SOS Youth Home was opened in 1993. Older boys from the SOS Children's Village normally move to the SOS Youth Facility when they start a vocational training course or go on to higher education. With the support of qualified youth workers, they develop realistic perspectives for their future, learn to shoulder responsibility and increasingly make their own decisions. They are encouraged to develop team spirit and build up contacts with relatives and friends, as well as with the relevant authorities and potential employers.

At the SOS Mother and Staff Training Centre, which consists of a multi-purpose hall, a classroom and accommodation for the participants, future SOS mothers and other co-workers are trained.
