Other SOS Projects in Ca Mau
Smaller children attend the SOS Nursery, where up to 205 children can be taught in six group rooms. For the older ones, there is an SOS School, which offers classes up to secondary level. The school has 24 classrooms with a capacity of 1,000 pupils, laboratories, a library and a canteen. Both the nursery and the school are attended by children from the local community as well.
An SOS Youth Home was opened at Ca Mau in 2002. Youths often move out of the village and into a youth facility when they start a vocational training course or go on to higher education. With the support of qualified youth workers, the young people develop realistic perspectives for their future, learn to shoulder responsibility and increasingly make their own decisions. They are encouraged to develop team spirit and build up contacts with relatives and friends, as well as with the relevant authorities and potential employers.
In January 2008, SOS Children's Villages opened an SOS Social Centre, which runs a Family Strengthening Programme. Monthly financial support is provided to orphaned, abandoned and poor children in the neighbourhood to cover basic needs (food, clothing, school expenses).
