A wicker balloon basket holding 16 passengers. The pilot is climbing out after some pre-flight tests, at Royal Victoria Park, Bath, England.
Wicker is used because it can withstand the extreme stresses during the landing of the balloon, without breaking.
The three coils form part of the propane burner system that generates the hot air for flight.
Photographed by Adrian Pingstone on 21st September 2005 and placed in the public domain.
