Aids Orphans in Togo
Togo is in West Africa and like most sub-Saharan African countries is feeling the affects of economic crises as well as the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The adult prevalence rate is over 4% with over 20% of orphans coming as a result of HIV/AIDS.
SOS Children in Togo
SOS Children has been working in Togo since 1979 in Lome, in the south, and Kara, in the north. In 2004 SOS Children began to develop Family Strengthening Programmes at both of the SOS Children's Villages to help families in need, particularly those affected by HIV/AIDS. The SOS Social Centre in Lomé educates and supports those in need and is focused on those families who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. In Kara, the well-established SOS Medical Centre supports mothers and their babies from the local community and helps to reduce the rates of mother-child transmission. There is also an SOS Social Centre that specialises in educating and supporting those in need, particularly those families who have been affected by HIV/AIDS.
