Summary
Description | Overlook over the w:Colorado River in the w:Grand Canyon along the w:Escalante Route. The 2 small prominences are "The Tabernacle", right, and Solomon Temple above the Colorado; the Nevills Rapid is below Solomon Temple's southeast. (the view is about 1.5 to 2.0 upstream from Nevills Rapid) (Various faults run up this Colorado R. section, as well as side canyon faults at other directions.) Standing on Redwall Limestone (downfaulted canyon side); across river: Supai Group (slopes), Redwall Limestone, above (Muav Limestone?), Bright Angel Shale, (the Muav/Bright Angel en:slope-former units), above the cliffs so easy to find, above the river: the (thinner, erosion-resistant), en:cliff-former, Tapeats Sandstone-(almost always a horizontal shelf, the "Tonto Platform"-(Tonto Group). The older angled basement rocks (at ~15 degrees) meet the bottom of the Tapeats, at various river sites, (8 separate units (the Unkar Group) make contact with the Tapeats); also the Nankoweap Formation, etc. (The South Rim is visible at upper, photo, left (intersection, with East Rim); the photo is High-Res, expandible; South Rim is in centre, on Horizon.) |
